National Education Day 2021: Tribute to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad

 National Education Day is celebrated every year on November 11 in India, honoring the first Education Minister of the country, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, on his birth anniversary.

Popularly known as Maulana Azad, he is remembered for being a noted scholar, poet, and revolutionary journalist and also for his invaluable contributions to the Indian freedom struggle. Maulana Azad played a major role in strengthening the education sector of India.

He improved the literacy rate of India by making the education system of India strong post-independence when the entire nation was suffering from widespread illiteracy. He put emphasis on higher education and vocational training for all the citizens of the country.

Maulana Azad also played a major role in the establishment of the University Grants Commission (UGC), which is the regulatory body for all higher education institutes in India. He was also responsible for establishing the first Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in the country.
